Photos and photography occupy a place of honour in Paris during April. This is the Month of the Photo at the Grand Palais and elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Cartier Foundation hosts the Autophoto exhibition, while the Pompidou Centre presents a Walker Evans retrospective. In addition, the annual Paris Fair will soon be returning to the capital! An ideal month for lovers of photography in Paris
Lovers of photography will be well served in Paris this April! Three major events and exhibitions are planned around photography in the capital. The Paris Month of the Photo, which has become the Greater Paris Month of the Photo, will be celebrated at the Grand Palais and in many other locations throughout the city. These various exhibitions will allow you to discover the work of the most famous photographers, as well as emerging talents.
You’ll also want to visit the Cartier Foundation, which hosts Autophoto from April 19th. This exhibition explores photography’s relationship with the automobile. From the first models to modern assembly line vehicles, the car has long been an exciting subject for photographers, and the 400 works on display will show exactly why. Your visit to the Cartier Foundation is also an opportunity to discover other exhibitions of contemporary art and the magnificent building designed by the architect Jean Nouvel.
Finally, the Pompidou Centre presents a retrospective of the work of the American photographer Walker Evans (1903-1975), the king of documentary style. This remarkable talent documented the effects of the Great Depression, but also left a fascinating visual record of odd and often overlooked aspects of American culture.
The Paris Fair puts innovation in the spotlight
Moving away from the purely visual, the Paris Fair returns to the capital from April 27th to May 8th. As every year, the 600,000 visitors expected will be able to discover the offerings of a huge number of exhibitors in this massive general purpose trade fair taking place at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre. The number of visitors, exhibitors and the 220,000m2 area of the Foire de Paris make it the largest event of its kind in Europe. This year, the Paris Fair will revolve around themes of home, gastronomy and shopping, allowing visitors to discover the latest innovations in these areas. The Grand Prix de l'Innovation and the Lépine competition will add to the excitement of these 10 days of trade fair heaven by rewarding the most innovative inventors and inventions of the year. This year’s Fair will also have a space specially dedicated to virtual reality.
